Psoriasis

Psoriasis is a disease that stems out of the disorder in the immune system. The ’T’ cells, which are a type of white blood cells overtly trigger inflammation in the skin and make skin cells to grow faster than normal which in return pile up as raised patches on the outer surface of skin. Now cells when they are produced under the skin may take a month’s time to mature. In Psoriasis white blood cells will build up rapidly in days which result into thick silvery scales with dry, red patches all over. The following are the signs and symptoms of Psoriasis:

Red patches on the skin
Among children the scaling is small
Bleeding skin with dry cracks
Itching, soreness and burning sensation
Nails in thickened pitted or ridged form

A few factors may cause Psoriasis; Injury to skin is one of the main factors. Skin inflammation can instigate psoriasis. Sunlight is a factor; strong sunlight may cause Psoriasis. Streptococcal infections a cause for plague psoriasis. The bacterial infections cause psoriasis that resembles small round marks on skin.


Types of Psoriasis:

Plague Psoriasis:

This is the common form of Psoriasis; it causes dry, red skin lesions covered with silvery scales. Itches are felt on the genitals or anywhere on the body. The skin around the joints may crack or bleed.

Nail Psoriasis:

It appears in finger and fore nails causing abnormal nail growth and discoloring. Nails may be separated from the flesh bed.

Scalp Psoriasis:

On the scalp it appears as red itchy patches with silver white scales, Flakes of dead skin is found on shoulders after scratching the scalp.

Gultake Psoriasis:

This affects younger person, which is usually instigated by a bacterial infection as strap throat. The symptoms are, small. Water drop shaped sores on the trunk, arms, legs and scalp. The scales may not be thick. With respiratory infections it may have recurrence.

Inverse Psoriasis:

It affects the skin under the breasts and around the genitals. It is with smooth patches of skin with inflammation.

Pustular Psoriasis: It occurs on widespread patches and in smaller areas on the hands, feet or finger tips. It grows quickly with blisters appearing just after hours after the skin becomes red and tender. They cause fever, chills, severe itching, and fatigue and weight loss.

Frythrodermic Psoriasis:

This is the least common type. This will cover the entire body with a red peeling rash which can burn severely. Corticosteroids or other medicating may instigate more.

Psoriatic Arthritis:

It is somewhat closer to arthritis as the skin may get inflamed and itching with discolored nails with swollen and pain develops in joints. Conjunctivitis may be a cause. It can cause stiffness and continual joint damage which sometimes may lead to deformity.

Treatment of Psoriasis:

They may even leave us without any treatment yet some drugs are prescribed; Emollients help reduce discomfort out of it; steroid creams will help control inflammation. Tazorac is good in treating. Anthralin will slow down cell production. Vitamin B3 is a good drug to treat the same.
